Cooking Malvani Fish Curry and Crispy Fried Fish

Welcome back to Part 2 of our fish cooking adventure! In this section, we'll guide you through making a delicious Malvani Fish Curry and a crispy fried fish dish to complement it. Let's get started!

Malvani Fish Curry Ingredients:

- 1 cup freshly grated coconut

- Red Chillies (Bedgi Mirchi)

- 1 small spoon Coriander seedst

- 5-6 kokum available at

- 2-3 garlic pods

- Half Onion

- Turmeric

- water

Instructions for Curry Base:

1. In a mixer, blend all the above ingredients into a smooth paste with a buttery consistency. This mixture becomes the flavorful curry base.

OR

If you're short on time or don't have all the ingredients, you can use a convenient option - take a packet of Mom’s Malvani Fish Curry Mix available at https://motheromalvan.com/products/malvani-fish-curry-mix and Coconut Milk (readily available in the market).

3. Mix water, coconut milk, and curry mix to create the curry base. Keep it aside for later use.

Making the Fish Curry:

Take a flat vessel and add 1 tsp of oil. Saute 1 tsp of chopped onion until translucent.

Add the coconut curry base to the vessel. If using fresh coconut base, add only 3/4th and reserve the remaining 1/4th for later.

Now, add your pre-marinated and washed fish to the curry base. Let it cook for about 3-5 minutes until it comes to a boil.

Add salt to taste. If you're using MOM's curry mix, you may not need to add additional salt.

Stir in the remaining 1/4th paste and turn off the flame. The curry is now ready to be served. Enjoy the delightful flavors of Malvani Fish Curry!

For Crispy Fried Fish:

To prepare the coating for frying, you'll need Rice Suji. Grind some rice to achieve a thin suji consistency. Be careful not to make it too powdery. Alternatively, you can buy Rice flour and add some thin rava for texture.

Take MOM's fish curry mix and mix it with a little water to create a paste. Rub this paste over the fish, ensuring it's evenly coated.

Next, coat the fish with the prepared Rice Suji. The layer of Rava should be thin to achieve a crispy texture.

Heat some oil in a pan and place the coated fish gently in the hot oil. Fry the fish on medium flame until both sides turn golden brown and crispy.

Once fried, remove the fish from the pan and place it on blotting paper to remove any excess oil.

Serve the hot and crispy fried fish alongside the delicious Malvani Fish Curry for a perfect seafood feast!
